In this episode of the Wrestling Mindset Podcast, Gene Zannetti talks with Alabama state champion Noah Breeland about starting mindset training halfway through his sophomore season, after his granddad saw it and signed him up.
Noah explains the adjustments he made as a senior, changing his entire warm-up and preparation routine so he was not overthinking the match for hours before it started. He also looks back at taking second his junior year, including a loss to a wrestler he had beaten the week before and a finals loss that came from abandoning his counter-wrestling style.
He describes using an early senior-season loss as a learning moment rather than a repeat of the year before, why you cannot stress what you cannot control, and why complacency sets in when the easy matches stop teaching you anything. He closes on why the Dan Gable quote about wrestling making everything else in life easier is one of the truest things he has ever heard.
